The UK/EU regulations dictate that a kit must not exceed the rated power of 250W to be road-legal. Which is not great news for the thrill-seekers, power hungry among us who want to have the occasional fun off-road yet still be able to ride sensibly and legally on-road. A purchase of the common high-powered kit will come with its legal implications. On the other hand, the practicality of a road-legal kit means giving up the fun one could have off-road. So which kit do you choose?
With these new rear wheel kits, CycloTricity had set out to resolve this very dilemma for its customers. They have developed a unique system that allows the user to swap between two modes depending on whether you are on-road or off-road, allowing you to unlock the full power where it is safe and legal to do so. This dual-mode system is embedded in the LCD Dashboard which can unlock the full power of the kit using a special code (this can be obtained upon signing the de-restriction terms of use). Please note that this is not the same as a de-restriction switch which has been questionable from a legal standpoint.

The bike will come preset to the road-legal mode of 250W by default. The dual-mode system is embedded in the LCD Dashboard which can unlock the full power of the system using a special code. This is the first e-bike that can offer 500W worth of thrill, yet still capable of being reconfigured for safe road-legal journeys.
Pedal Assist System Upgrades
A Pedal Assistance System (PAS) is a device that senses your pedalling and makes your kit give automatic assistance, i.e. you do not have to press the throttle throughout your journey.
We have two PAS packages on offer:
- Pedal Assistance System with LED Display (Basic)This is our basic PAS upgrade which includes a handlebar dashboard allowing you to shift between three power levels; low, medium or high.
- Pedal Assistance System with LCD Display (Advanced)This is our top of the range electric bike kit upgrade for you who want to combine your conversion kit with state of the art technology, yet at a surprisingly good value. This package combines a Pedal Assistance System with an advanced LCD handlebar monitor which, not only gives you five levels of power, but also displays your speed, journey distance, time, average speed and many other readings. The LCD computer is required to unlock the full power of 500W for off-road use.
Although these are optional upgrades, you are highly recommended to install a Pedal Assistance System as it will transform your riding experience and improve the longevity of the battery.
***Please note that your bike must have a PAS & no throttle to be legal for use on the UK roads and your bike must be ridden in the 250W mode. To ride your bike with a throttle and at the 500W mode you will need to sign and return the disclaimer form regarding using your bike on private land***
Things to think about before purchasing this rear drive conversion kit:
1- If you wish to include a Pedal Assistance System with your eKit, the bottom bracket on your bike needs to be a Square Taper type (which is the most common bottom bracket on ordinary bikes). If you don’t have a square taper bottom bracket, you may need to replace it as well as the crank arms to make your bike compatible with the PAS. If in doubt, please consult a bike service shop on how to fit a square taper bottom bracket on your bike.
Alternatively, you may opt for purchasing the LCD Display only without the PAS if you want the de-restriction functions but prefer not to fiddle with your bottom bracket.
2- This Rear Drive Motor is only compatible with threaded Freewheel Cogs, not Cassettes. Here is the difference:
If your bicycle is fitted with a Cassette, remember to buy a Freewheel from the drop-down menu above or from your local bike shop.
3- To swap Freewheels, you need a tool named Freewheel Remover.
These are widely available to order online.
4- The Rear forks on your bike need to have 135mm clearance between the drop-outs (which is the case with the vast majority of bikes).
5- The fork drop-outs themselves need to be the standard 10mm size (this is also the most common size for fork drop-outs). If you happen to have the slightly smaller 9mm drop-out, you could file them down by 0.5mm on either side for the motor to fit. Please seek professional assistance for this part as doing it wrongly will be entirely at your own risk.
6- Ensure you have enough room inside your frame triangle for your choice of battery:

Apart from a battery, the above is all that is needed to fully convert a bicycle into an electric bike. All our kit packages include these essential items. All you need to add is a battery (and the optional PAS upgrade if required).
We offer a one year warranty covering the following items on your bike (including all electrical parts). The warranty covers technical faults which have not been in anyway caused by the user deliberately or accidentally.
- Hub motor & motor shell
- Handlebar dashboard
- Electric brake levers (excluding brake shoes, callipers and pads)
- Controller
- Throttle
- Pedal assistance device
Exceptions to limited Warranty
- Damage resulting from misuse, not maintaining the vehicle or not following the guidelines within this user guide.
- Accidental or deliberate damage.
- Damage due to private repair or alteration by user.
- Failure to produce invoice or proof of purchase.
- Non electric spare parts and components worn in normal use eg. brakes, gears, chains, cranks, tyres & inner tubes.

Delivery
Once your order has been placed, we will charge your card and your order will be dispatched and should be with you within 5-10 working days. Once your bike has been dispatched an email notification will be sent to you.
Returns - Changed your mind
If you change your mind after buying from us and want a refund, you have up to 30 days to let us know and have the goods returned. You will need to return the product before we can provide a refund.
Please note – the 30 days return period is to allow you to examine the goods as you would in a shop. To obtain a full refund, the goods must be returned in an “as new” condition with all components included in their original packaging. “As new” condition is defined as unridden.
To return your product, you should email us at returns@generation-electric.com. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item.
Returns - Damages & Faulty
We ask that you thoroughly inspect all items at the point of delivery. We advise you not to accept delivery of any damaged items. If you discover that an item has been damaged, please send clear photos of the damaged items to info@generation-electric.com so that we can open an insurance claim on your behalf.
If your bike develops a fault through normal use (as outlined in the manufacturer's manual) you could be entitled to a repair or replacement as covered with the warranty. Please send through details of the fault to returns@generation-electric.com and we will arrange the repair or replacement with the manufacturer.
Please note – any fault caused due to misuse of the bike including water or external damage is not covered by this policy. Please ensure you read the manufacturer's manual in detail before using your electric bike to avoid voiding your warranty.
We strongly recommend that any returns are sent via recorded, special or any other similar delivery service. Ensure that all items are packaged as securely as possible, as we accept no responsibility for any damages or items lost in transit.
